HSK levels for Chinese courses in Dubai
Chinese is measured by the HSK scale rather than the European CEFR system. Each level runs for 40 hours. However, you begin where you already are, because a short placement check in the free demo sets your starting band.

Is Mandarin actually hard to learn?
It is different rather than difficult, and the difficulty sits in unusual places. The grammar is genuinely simpler than European languages: no verb conjugation, no genders, no plurals, and no tenses to memorise.
The two real challenges are tones and characters. Both respond well to short, frequent practice with a native speaker who corrects you early. That is exactly what a small class gives you, and exactly what an app cannot.
The HSK exam, and which band you need
HSK is the official Chinese proficiency test, recognised by universities, employers and the Chinese government. A new standard, HSK 3.0, became the worldwide format in July 2026.
HSK — reading, listening, writing
This is the main written paper, run by Chinese Testing International. Moreover, under HSK 3.0, speaking is built into the exam from Band 3 upward.
HSKK — spoken Chinese
This is the separate speaking paper under the older HSK 2.0 format. Even so, some universities and employers still ask for it, so check what your application actually names.
YCT — for younger learners
This is the youth version of HSK, aimed at school-age students. In practice, it suits children following Mandarin in the UAE curriculum who want a recognised certificate.

Course fees depend on three things: the band you start at, the format you pick, and how many hours you book. Group batches cost less per hour than one-to-one coaching, while online and in-centre sessions are priced the same. In other words, the format you choose drives most of the difference.
Every fee we quote includes your course material and the KHDA-approved certificate. Nothing is added later.
HSK examination fees sit outside the course fee, because you pay those directly to the test centre when you register. We confirm the current amount before you book, so there are no surprises.
Because batch fees move with intake size and start date, we quote them on request rather than publish a figure that goes stale. Message us on WhatsApp, and you will have the current fee and the next start date the same day.

How much do Chinese language courses in Dubai cost?
Fees depend on your band and your format: group, live online, or one to one. Every fee includes course material and the KHDA-approved certificate. Where is your Chinese language institute in Dubai?

How long does it take to reach HSK 1 or HSK 2?
HSK 1 takes about 40 hours of class time, and most students finish in six to eight weeks on weekday evenings. HSK 2 adds roughly another 40 hours. Alternatively, an intensive batch gets you there sooner.
Do I have to learn Chinese characters?
For the HSK exam, yes, because reading and writing are assessed. If you only need spoken Mandarin for trade or travel, we can weight your course toward speaking instead. Tell us at the demo, and we will adjust the plan.
What is the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese?
Mandarin is the official language of mainland China and the one HSK tests, so it is what we teach. Cantonese, meanwhile, is spoken mainly in Hong Kong and Guangdong. For business across China, Mandarin is therefore the practical choice.
Is the certificate KHDA approved?
Yes. You receive a KHDA-approved certificate from Level Up Knowledge after each level. As for the HSK certificate itself, we prepare you for the exam and then guide you through registering for it.
Can I learn Chinese online instead of coming to the centre?
Yes. Online batches follow the same syllabus with the same trainers. So students in Marina, JVC, Silicon Oasis, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah get an identical course without the commute.
I am a complete beginner. Is that a problem?
Not at all, because HSK 1 assumes no Chinese whatsoever. We start with pinyin and tones, and we teach in English until you are ready for more Mandarin in the room.
